Marc Guehi led Crystal Palace to FA Cup glory last season

The England defender was close to joining Liverpool over the summer before the move collapsed, but has now made the decision to join a City side aiming to haul down Premier League leaders Arsenal amidst a defensive crisis.

Pep Guardiola's side will be hoping 25-year-old Guehi can hit the ground running and plug the gap left by long-term injuries suffered by defenders Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias.

The move will be a blow to FA Cup champions Crystal Palace, whose manager Oliver Glasner confirmed earlier this week that he will depart his role at the end of the current season.

In a statement, Guehi said: "It’s definitely the right environment for me to improve and just get better.

“Hopefully, I can bring what I have to the table to help every single person here too.”

Two players he has spent time with at international level are Phil Foden and John Stones, two of his new City teammates and the defender explained

Speaking about Stones, Guehi revealed: “I think John has taken me under his wing, to be honest. Especially when I’m with the national team, I see him as a big brother...

“He’s such an amazing person to be around and I’m really delighted to play with him.”

Club director Hugo Viana added: "It is clear Marc has been one of the best defenders in English football for quite some time now, so we are absolutely delighted to bring him to Manchester City.

“I feel we have signed a huge talent who will help us improve. He is only 25, but he has shown already he is a leader, a brilliant professional and someone desperate to improve.

Guehi began his career rising through Chelsea's academy, and enjoyed a successful loan spell at Swansea before signing permanently for Crystal Palace.

The defender enjoyed a productive spell with the Eagles, captaining them to an FA Cup and Community Shield in 2025.
